Competitive Exams for Students
1. NTSE-NATIONAL TALENT SEARCH EXAMINATION
NTSE is an activity organized by NCERT for students of various classes. It is one of the most popular examinations conducted in India. NTSE was established in 1961. It is a scholarship program.
ELIGIBILITY
Conducted for class-X students only.
SYLLABUS
NCERT prescribed syllabus to be followed. It covers science, math, social science and mental ability.
SELECTION PROCESS
It has two stages of selection procedures.

2. KVPY–KISHORE VAIGYANIC PROTSAHAN YOJANA
KVPY was started in 1999 by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The main agenda of this exam is to encourage students to take up research in the fields of basic science, engineering and medicine.
ELIGIBILITY
Students in class-XI and class-XII of recognized institutions.
SYLLABUS
Subjects and curriculum of CBSE and ICSE boards.
SELECTION PROCESS
STAGE I: The first stage is the aptitude exam. Eligible candidates are chosen from the received applications and are called for an aptitude exam.
STAGE II: Interview round. Based on the performance of the aptitude exam shortlisted students will be appearing for the interview round. This is the final selection process.
3. HBBVS–DR.HOMI BHABHA BAL VAIDYANIK SPARDHA
HBBVS was initiated by the Mumbai Science Teachers Association in 1981. The main aim of this exam is to search for science talents in students and to encourage them to take an interest in science.
ELIGIBILITY
Only students studying class VI and class IX can take this exam.
SYLLABUS
The exam covers the subjects and topics covered in the curriculum up to class VI and class IX.
SELECTION PROCESS
STAGE I: Written-test
STAGE II: Practical skill test
FINAL STAGE: Oral test i.e. the interview and submission of action research report.
4. NSO–NATIONAL SCIENCE OLYMPIAD
NSO is a national-level science exam conducted by the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF). NSO rankings will be allotted based on the marks obtained.
ELIGIBILITY
Students of class I to class XII are eligible to participate.
SYLLABUS
Science and math syllabus as prescribed by CBSE, ICSE or various state boards.

SELECTION PROCESS
There will be four levels of exams. First will be within the school, at the city-state level and above all, at the international level.
SOF also conducts the NCO-national Cyber Olympiad with the same features as in NSO.

5. UCO–UNIFIED CYBER OLYMPIAD
The Unified Council conducts UCO every year. UCO is a test that helps students improve their mental ability, logical reasoning and computer skills.
ELIGIBILITY
Students in class III to class XII of recognised schools are eligible.
SYLLABUS
Subjects are more generic and are suitable for CBSE, ICSE and state boards.
SELECTION PROCESS
The selection is done in two stages.
STAGE I: An aptitude type of exam is conducted at the school level. The selected students from each class appear for the second exam.
STAGE II: Students selected at the school level appear for the state level selection exam. Toppers are announced based on the stage II performance.

6. MTSE–MATHS TALENT SEARCH EXAM
Math’s Talent Search Exam (MTSE) is a competitive exam conducted by the Indian Institute for Studies in Mathematics (IISMA). Mental ability, mathematical reasoning, accuracy and speed are the main focus of this examination.
ELIGIBILITY
Students in class III to class IX of recognised schools are eligible.
SYLLABUS
The subjects and study matter followed are based on CBSE and ICSE prescribed curriculum.

Top rankers per class are selected and awarded scholarships.
7. NLSTSE- NATIONAL LEVEL SCIENCE TALENT SEARCH EXAM
NLSTSE is organized by the Unified Council for students of various classes. It is one of the most popular examinations conducted in India. It is a scholarship. Program.
ELIGIBILITY
Conducted for students of class II- XII.
SYLLABUS
It covers science, maths, social science and mental ability. Specifically physics, chemistry, math, and biology for high school students.
SELECTION PROCESS
It has two stages of selection procedures.
STAGE I: written exam conducted by state/UT.
STAGE II: Students selected in state-level exams appear for the national level.
8. NSEJS- NATIONAL STANDARD EXAM IN JUNIOR SCIENCE
NSEJS is jointly conducted by IAPT (Indian Association of Physics Teachers) and HBCSE (Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Examination).
ELIGIBILITY
All Indian students of class I to X.
SYLLABUS
Subjects and curriculum of CBSE and ICSE boards. Mainly focussed on science and generic content.
SELECTION PROCESS
The selection is first made at the school level. The qualifying students then appear for the national round.
9. SSTSE- STATE SCIENCE TALENT SEARCH EXAMINATIONS
SSTSE is conducted by the Rajasthan state Government. And is exclusively for Rajasthan students only.
ELIGIBILITY
Only students studying class X of recognised institutions.
SYLLABUS
The exam contents are purely based on science.
SELECTION PROCESS
It is an exam conducted at the school level. Schools across the state.
10. SLSTSE- STATE-LEVEL SCIENCE TALENT SEARCH EXAM
SLSTSE is an activity organized by the Unified Council for students of various classes. It is one of the most popular examinations conducted in India. It is a scholarship program.
ELIGIBILITY
Students of class IV to class X of recognized schools are eligible to participate.
SYLLABUS
The syllabus is mainly based on science.
SELECTION PROCESS
Firstly the selections are made at the school level. The selected students from all the schools compete at the state level.
11. IOS- INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIAD IN SCIENCE
IOS is a science exam held annually at the national and international level. The conducting body for IOS is the SSE (Society for Science Education).
ELIGIBILITY
All Indian Students of class I to class XII of recognised schools are eligible.

12. RMO- REGIONAL MATHEMATICS OLYMPIAD

Students in class XI & class XII of recognised schools are eligible.
SYLLABUS
The main focus of this exam is mathematics and is based on CBSE prescribed curriculum.

13. IOM- INTERNATIONAL MATHEMATICS OLYMPIAD
IOM is a proficient math exam conducted annually by SSE (Society of Science Education) to test the mathematics quotient among the students. It is held at national and international levels.

Students in class I to class X of recognised schools are eligible.

14. Geo Genius
Today, among most of the students, Science and Maths have become the subjects of interest, making them unaware of the geographical facts about the world. Thus to cultivate the understanding of Geography among the school students, Geo Genius was established. Students from Class II to XII are eligible for these exams. This test is conducted in two phases. In Phase I, children participate in their respective schools throughout the country and then based on the cut-off, students are selected for Phase II where they are invited to the National Finals.

15. Silver zone Olympiads
This Olympiad aims to promote competitive awareness of academics among school students in India and abroad. Conducted for classes I to XII in various subjects, the test aims to develop creative thinking and enhance the problem-solving ability among students.

16. National Interactive Maths Olympiad (NIMO)
This national-level test is conducted with a vision to remove the fear of maths from students’ minds, by introducing interactive activities like interactive olympiad, workshops and seminars. Thus, NIMO works for the sole purpose of improving the mathematical skills and mental ability of school students.

17. National Biotechnology Olympiad or NBO
NBO is conducted for classes I to XII to enhance the student’s knowledge about Biotechnology issues and to test their aptitude for taking up a career in Biotechnology in future. The test comprises 50 questions for 50 marks.

18. Assessment of Scholastic Skills Through Educational Testing (ASSET)
ASSET, meant for the students of classes III-X, uses multiple-choice questions to focus on measuring how well skills and concepts underlying the school syllabus have been understood by the students thus breaking the concept of rote learning. The test is mainly based on the CBSE, ICSE, IGCSE, and major state boards’ curriculum.
